50723

TLS(CAR,X) attached. Unwin sends BR an advance copy of History; he has never had so much difficulty in getting a book bound. As soon as all copies are gone upon publication on 19 November, he will apply again to the Moberly Pool for more paper. He has placed translation rights in all the principal countries of Europe.

50724

50734

TLS(CAR,X) is attached. Unwin encourages BR to bring Scientific Outlook up to date—revisions would be no extra expense for a Guild Book edition. The synopsis for Human Knowledge could be more attractive if the level of difficulty is about equal to that of Our Knowledge.

50735

TLS(CAR,X) is attached. Unwin congratulates BR on completing Human Knowledge and asks him to delay despatch of the typescript to Simon and Schuster. On the binding of the reprint of History. Unwin would enjoy a further talk with BR at the Reform Club.

"Concerning the contents of the article on Prosperity [Property], I must confess that I am somewhat disappointed.... The abolition of private ownership of land apply mainly to England and scarcely to America.... I am perfectly willing to publish Russell's article as it stands, but I would not hesitate to publish criticisms of it. I am afraid of the book, and I think first it would as a business venture be a complete failure."

"Thus I will say that I am willing to publish Mr. Russell's article, but I feel that I expose him unnecessarily and he might later on regret having written the article. I will hold it back until I hear from you that the article is seriously written and meant to see the light of publication."

Also received are the typed additions for Justice in War-Time.
