BR could not remember her new surname. "Inability to remember names is a sign of senility." He bought a house in Wales "in very lovely country". He is going to Switzerland for a fortnight to lecture, then Wales. "My views on the state of the world are the same as they were last October...." Huge sale of History.

BR has been busy: Reith Lectures, took Conrad to south of France and Sicily (part holiday and part lectures), and has been preparing an autobiography. He goes in a few days to Paris for UNESCO, and next summer Australia. "In the interval I address the armed forces, working men at Oxford, earnest atheists, etc." He will have to inform Death that he is too busy to die.

BR has been thinking of plans for them to be together. "I must avoid open sin because of Peter." BR would like a time on the continent with Miriam but is only allowed £35 of foreign currency. Dated 1950/11/18 because BR dated the letter simply "Washington. Sat." (See record 20239.)
