"It is quite impossible to say in the abstract whether a man should devote himself to this or that kind of desirable activity since the answer must depend upon his abilities. It would not have been desirable for Beethoven to attempt the work of Kant, or for Kant to attempt the work of Beethoven."

"1. I thought the Suez War a blunder and a crime, and said so publicly at the time. 2. I think it was a mistake to establish a Jewish State in Palestine, but it would be a still greater mistake to try to get rid of it now that it exists. I strongly disapprove of the mutual intolerance displayed by Jews and Arabs. 3. "There is no difference of opinion between Hogben and me in the two passages you quote. Hogben is not saying 'there is no such thing as a moment', he is saying 'there is no such thing as the next moment'. The same thing holds, for example, of fractions. There is no fraction which is the next after a half in order of magnitude."

"I am sorry but I see no more evidence for Christian mythology than for any other mythology. The Bible is in many ways an interesting account of the practices and the prejudices of primitive peoples. I have never felt that there is any one solution for the world's difficulties and certainly such proposals can only be of use to mankind if they are rational proposals based on the evidence to be had from experience."
