BR does not need to see revised proofs, as he has made "only quite trivial corrections" to his History. Simon and Schuster have made "a very elaborate index".
BR TO ALLEN AND UNWIN / STANLEY UNWIN, [29 MAY 1945]1
BRACERS 48033. ALS(X). George Allen and Unwin Ltd.
Proofread by K. Blackwell
Dear Unwin
I notice that the proofs I have corrected are being marked to revise. I do not need to see the revise, as I have made only quite trivial corrections.2
Simon and Schuster say they have made a very elaborate index, but I haven’t seen it. Would you wish me to obtain a proof of it and send it to you?3 I am not prepared to make an index myself, but will, if you wish it, pay any one of your choosing to make one — preferably in the form of an advance on royalties.
Yours sincerely
Bertrand Russell

I do not need to see the revise, as I have made only quite trivial corrections. It’s not known what these corrections to History of Western Philosophy were. The reviews and readers’ letters with more corrections did not start until US publication in October 1945.

Simon and Schuster … index … send it to you? Russell did send it to Unwin. See record 48035.
