Blake is hoping to get a policy position in a new Division to find "people who are politically all right" and to start publishing newspapers and magazines. Otherwise, there is little to report in Germany, except that the British are doing a better job administering their area than the Americans and that many Germans were surprised by the Potsdam Declaration.

Received Peter's long letter today.  Reiterates how pleased he is with the election results and how much hope it has given to him and many others.

Blake talks about the atomic bomb, saying it is "as 'cute' a little gadget as has come our way in a long while. It is so horrible...." He hopes that it will not be used, but that if it is at least it might be a humane weapon, unlike all the people he sees there crippled by the war.

Blake reports that he's told Martha that her chances of getting a passport are very low, but it is slightly better in France, where she is now hoping to get a placement with Cooks or a European TIME office. The letter from Patricia will help if she has to pass through England to get to France.

Blake is now working in Frankfurt. He is very concerned for the state of Germany and that unless things get started immediately it will be too late. Things are especially bad in the Russian Zone.

Blake has seen the von Trotts and asks if the Russells know anyone in the British Zone whom Werner von Trott could contact about a job. He also alerts them that any German refugees who volunteered during the war and have since been discharged were not being aided at all and essentially told to return to Germany.
