BR would give the required assurance about Bagley Wood's drains and water supply but "I am not prepared to entertain an offer which opens an indefinite prospect of dispute and litigation after the sale is completed."
BR TO CROMPTON LLEWELYN DAVIES / COWARD, CHANCE & CO., 9 MAR. 1911
BRACERS 826. ALS. McMaster
Proofread by K. Blackwell
March 9. ’11.1
Dear Crompton
I am perfectly willing to guarantee that the drains are in order, and to testify that we have invariably found the water supply adequate, and just as good in the months of July August and September as in any other months, as indeed is to be expected with a well of such depth. The amount of water is very nearly constant throughout the year, and has always amply sufficed for the Bath Room as well as for all other uses.
If this assurance suffices for Mr. Spender, well and good; but I am not prepared to entertain a offer which opens an indefinite prospect of dispute and litigation after the sale is completed.
I must therefore request that Mr. Spender should either withdraw his offer, or accept my assurance, or satisfy himself independently that the water-supply is adequate. I shall be obliged for a definite answer at the earliest possible moment.
Yrs truly
Bertrand Russell.
