Dear Mrs. Holden,
Very many thanks for your letter and doctor’s report on Jackie.
I am so glad that you had a good time at Christmas. I rather felt that I had not much time or energy to entertain you properly. There was a good deal to attend to, and also I am expecting a baby. It is kind of you to say such nice things about the school, and it is a comfort in a world of criticism to have a few friends. If there is anything that we feel you could do for us, we shall certainly let you know. You have already done a great deal with the cinema; the latest films were delightful, and the children are now getting two semi-educational films every week. They are all thrilled by it.
Jackie is in much better health than last term. Physically she needs a great deal of rest and quiet, but mentally and morally she needs the company of the other children. We are doing our best to give her a balance of the two things. It would obviously be bad for a child of her temperament to be kept more or less solitary and treated as an invalid, though there is no doubt that her physical condition will want very careful watching for several years yet.
Yours very sincerely,
<signed> Dora Russell
P.S. Kit is free this week-end, and not again till February 28th; if this latter date will suit you, she would be very pleased to accept your invitation. If not we can send Jacky another week-end of course.
