Dear Céleste
It is a blow to learn that Jackie has both chickenpox and scarlet fever. Poor child! The chickenpox I fear she caught here, but not the scarlet fever. It is most unlucky. She is a dear girl — more so than you think! (not more than you feel) — and I shall miss her. We are keeping Telegraph House as a quarantine place for chickenpox contacts and suspects (the measles has worked itself out), so the rest of us have to live at Battine and avoid T.H.
Would you mind letting Betty know, as soon as you possibly can, what you want her to do about the summer? The Sanders’ and Joy could cross with her if she goes to N.Y.C. with Jackie, and the parents want to know. So it will be a great convenience to a number of people to know what you want done. I imagine that if Betty is to go to S. America she may as well go to New York first.
Dora is in Cornwall, and I am running the school without her this term. Give Jacky my love. If you ever feel like writing to me, you will increase my happiness.
Yours ever
Bertrand Russell.
