19th December 1928.
Dear Mrs. Holden,
When Jackie returned to us in September, her passport was not senta with her. We managed to get her through without it, and I hope we may be able to manage the same when she goes back to-morrow night. I have telegraphed to her school in view of your telegram to me, but I think it likely that the passport will not arrive in time. They are, however, not very fussy about young children who are going only to France, and it will probably be all right. We meant to have written to you sooner on the subject, but my wife was taken ill and, as she had the matter in hand, it got neglected till rather late. Jackie arrives at Havre in the small hours of Friday morning and is due in Paris, Gare St. Lazare, at 10.18.
The suitcase with Jackie’s riding clothes in it did not come with her to Petersfield. Wellington boots* are high rubber boots which slip on without laces or other fastenings.
Yours sincerely,
<signed> Bertrand Russell.
*I dare say the French for them is bottes Napoléon.
