Sunday
Dearest Alys —
I am anxious to know how the meeting went off — I suppose I shall hear tomorrow. The dinner at the Lodge was huge, but I was next Lady Jebb, which made it not so bad. Arthur Elliot and his son came to breakfast, and the sona seemed pleasant.
My tea-party was a failure. Two of my men failed to turn up, and nobody talked to Jane, so that I had to neglect all my other guests, and they rather got stuck. Today I have seen Verrall, Mrs. Sidgwick and the George Darwins. On Friday I had a Frenchman, an American and a Danish Lady to tea; it was an easier team than the day before, and went off better.

I am sending this to London as I fear it would miss thee at Oxford.
