Tuesday
Dearest Alys
I am very sorry indeed that thee felt depressed about thy Albert Hall speech. I should gather thee had really spoken well, but nothing will placate the suffragettes. I am sure the Lib. women will be grateful.
I enclose 2 letters from Mrs Berry, who wants us to lunch with her Sunday. Will thee reply yes or no for us both? I want not to lunch at the Lodge, but I don’t know if thee has made other arrangements.
I am glad Bagley is to be useful for Phyllis Mason. Her brother, who is at Sydney here, came to see me the other day. He is a mathematician, and has a friend at my lectures. I am glad thee liked my Spinoza article.
The Nuttalls seemed very anxious to see thee. The Bethune-Bakers’ house, at the end of Cranmer Rd., has been let furnished for 6 months, but is to be had unfurnished at the end of that time. If the rent is reasonable, it seems to me that would do very well, and we could manage with lodgings till then.
Thine aff.
Bertie
