BAGLEY WOOD,
OXFORD.
Friday
Dearest Alys
Thee will be glad to hear that I succeeded in seeing Aunt Maude yesterday as soon as our Comee. was over. I then went to see Miss Birch, and found that she has not joined the Antis, and is in fact not Anti, but indifferent.
We had a rather electric Comee., and finally decided to send our news to the Manchester people, who are going to start an independent paper with their own capital. Please tell thy mother that the Committee, while very grateful for her willingness to be useful, had decided under the circumstances that a genuinely independent paper would be better.
I lunched with Arthur and Mary, but gleaned nothing there.
Thine aff
Bertie.
