My Dearest Darling1 —
This is the last moment of my little holiday — in a few minutes I am off to Madison Wis. But I shan’t be as busy again as I have been. I told Feakins originally that I didn’t want more than 5 engagements a week, and for the rest of my time he has stuck to that. I went with Helen Dudley and her sister and Eliot’s brother to the Moscow Art Theatre which is here — they did the Cherry Orchard — the acting is quite wonderful. All went off well with Helen — no undue emotion, which was a relief. I felt I owed her a duty, and was grateful for being let off lightly. She is not absolutely sane, and gets very quickly tired. Also she can’t walk properly, which is the beginning of paralysis. I read Munro’s Rumour which pleased me greatly. Most of the time I slept. — O Darling I do want to be back with you. This is a loathsome country and I feel like a lost child — just as John would feel if he were lost in the Park. No time for more. Take care of yourself Darling. I’m afraid you are overworking. I shall feel happier when you are in Cornwall. Love to John and Kate and 1000 kisses to you my dear dear Treasure.
