My Darling Love1 —
Your letter of Tuesday a fortnight ago has just come. I search for your letters through the piles of dull things, and they make me realize that there is a happy land far far away. I am getting on all right. I find the work less trying than I expected and I am very fit. But oh I shall be glad when it is over. I hate being a parson. I am just back from Phila and tomorrow I go to Boston. The money pours in. By the way, if my weekly baccy still comes, please stop it, and take what has come to Cornwall when you go. I haven’t time for a proper letter as it is 12, and I have to give a lecture, not yet prepared, at 3, and lunch with the New Republic at 1. My dear Heart, I dream about you and John, and Kate too, every night without fail, and all day I count the hours till I get home. It is a dreary exile, and I can’t take any interest in the work, though every one is enthusiastic. I just long to have you in my arms — the world seems so cold and empty without you. All my Love, my sweet Treasure.
