Dearest Colette
It was a joy to get your letter of June 5. Your defence of your nephew3 was a masterpiece. If ever I am had up for a grave crime, I shall call upon you to prove that I am the most virtuous of human beings. I enclose a cutting4 (not to be returned) which may interest you. All your gossip is interesting.
My fondest love, dear Colette.

defence of your nephew Gerald Francis (Sowerby) Annesley (1904–1992), the son of her half-sister Mabel and her husband, Gerald Sowerby. In her letter of 5 June 1964, Colette characterized her nephew as “self-indulgent” rather than “mean” (BRACERS 98492).

a cutting Not extant with this letter. Possibly the cutting concerned the BBC television tribute on BR’s 92nd birthday, The Life and Times of Bertrand Russell. Miles Malleson was part of it. See B&R E64.04, dated 20 May 1964.
