I am delighted my Darling that Helen was so good2 — It is a joy — I got 2 letters3 from you yesterday and one this morning — which was heavenly — You are tremendously busy — I wonder what book of mine you have been reading? Social Reconstruction? I long to see the new unposted letters4 —

Wittgenstein5 is grown more normal — he is quite witty — In his work he is wonderful — we discuss it point by point many hours a day — He is very proud — will hardly mention Vienna privations, and laughs if he does. He has no great coat, only a little mackintosh cape with no warmth in it — He has now arrived for his day’s lesson6 so I must stop — Goodbye my Beloved, my Heart’s Life — I love you, love you, love you —

  Helen was so good This letter is either not extant, or the remarks about Helen were removed from the “Letters to Bertrand Russell from Constance Malleson, 1916–1969” typescript. The Trojan Women had its first of four performances at the Holborn Empire on 10 December 1919. This comment, of course, differs from her recollections in After Ten Years [London: J. Cape, 1931], pp. 133–5, when she thought herself a failure as Helen in every performance after the first one in Oxford.
