My Beloved
What a heavenly time it was — I shall never forget those enchanted woods4 with the quiet river gliding beneath them — Oh I do love you, my heart’s Life — I am longing to see you as Helen again5 tomorrow — Dear one, take care of yourself — you are most precious, my Cherub — All happiness be about you my Heart’s Comrade6 —

enchanted woods They were supposed to go to the woods to celebrate Colette’s birthday on Friday 24 October.

Helen again There are three possibilities for BR to see her play Helen in The Trojan Women again at the Old Vic: 21 or 28 October or 4 November 1919. He had seen it for the first time on 14 October. The 21st is obviously before her birthday, which they spent in the woods; the 28th in his pocket diary notes an appointment with his tailor for 4 p.m., and there is also a letter (BRACERS 19575) which has been dated 28 October in which he writes that he wonders how the play is going; finally November 4th had him at Caxton Hall at 2 p.m., according to his pocket diary. It appears he planned on seeing the play afterwards or did not go to Caxton.
