My Darling Love

You were so very dear last night — You do touch my heart so deeply, Dearest — I can’t bear that you should be unhappy or that people or circumstances should hurt you — I mind it just as much when I hurt you as when other people do — You are so loving and so unexacting — you let every one trample on you and I love you for it. Dear Love it was heavenly to be with you again and to feel your dear arms round me again. You are my heart’s joy — you fill my heart with music — My gentle Dear. I long to keep all pain away from you but I can’t — I wish I were an Emperor — or even an actor-manager — and could give you scope — Goodnight my lovely Darling, the light of my work, my morning Joy —
