My dearest Love
It is a most dreadful blow about the film4 — I can’t tell you how sorry I am — I hate not to be able to comfort you — It is dreadful not to be able to do anything for you my dear One —
If you would like to see me in a quiet way — just to let you know I care about your happiness — tell me and I will come.

dreadful blow about the film Because Colette’s correspondence is not extant for this period, it is not known what film this refers to. She had already made two films, Hindle Wakes and The Admirable Crichton. In a letter ten days later, BR asks her about the outcome of her interview with the film people that took place that day (BRACERS 19483). And in a letter written on 15 July 1919, he writes again about how loathsome it is that the film people are so treacherous (BRACERS 19508). If all these letters are concerned with the same film and film people, then this letter may be with an incorrect envelope and thus the date suspect.
