Sunday
My Darling —
Your telegram came this morning. I am very glad you can have me Tuesday. I will arrive at Wheatley 4.30. I don’t think it matters about S.S. It is quite what we expected. We can easily force their hand by going on getting publicity and raising a fuss in the House.
How odd things are. I wanted a walk today and hadn’t time to go far, so I went with Dakyns to Epping Forest. You and I once had a painful day there, but I thought the impression would have faded — I was wrong, it hadn’t faded at all — The place seemed to me still quite horrible — I made him come away as quickly as possible.
I am very tired, needing a holiday. I do hope the good of the sea will stay with you. I wish pain didn’t force itself into the inmost fibres of things — it keeps driving me on. It is all my fault. Goodbye till Tuesday.
Your
B.
