My Darling

It was a great joy getting two letters from you this morning tho’ I see you are feeling the effort and labour a great deal, as you were bound to. Yes, it will be a joy when it is all over. I quite think you haven’t been enough alone lately and will have to be more alone unless you get much better. I won’t say any more for fear of reminding you of the pantomime.

I have had a rather arduous morning — over 3 hours with 3 successive young men who had done papers for me. It is much easier to make oneself understood to one man than to a class, especially when he has done work showing what he doesn’t understand. One of them, Dorward, a Scotchman, is pretty good, but none of them are nearly up to Broad, whom I had last year. The weather is lovely and I must go out. I have a lecture this afternoon and I haven’t really begun my proofs yet. Tonight I feast with Johnson. — Poor Geach is in a great state of mind because he finds Moore and I don’t always agree, and he wants to regard all we both say as definitive truth. He must be taught that there is no certainty in philosophy.

I managed to read the whole of your train letter in spite of the shaking. Darling indeed I understand inwardly and easily the way you get shut up when you are tired. I mind very much your being tired but I never think there is anything wrong otherwise. And if you chose not to see me at any time I should not be hurt. I don’t think it would be a good plan for you to make a “tremendous effort”; you would only be more tired afterwards.

It is good about Julian — it seemed so to me but I didn’t know if it was my imagination.

Darling this is a wretched letter but I am tired and must get out. My whole soul yearns to you Dearest — I do long for you to be happy and strong and well — I love you I love you I love you.
