My Darling

The enclosed is rather a blow. I have written to Arthur telling him (in effect) that he is a cad. It is a lucky escape for her. I have always disliked him. Please return his letter.

Your letter of last night came at the same time as Arthur’s. I shall reach my flat by 10.30 on Friday, but I shall have plenty to do talking to the charwoman and so on till you come. How amusing your finding drawings of yourself by John. Isn’t it a pity I can’t have any of them — tho’ I dare say I should hate them all. — The chest of drawers £3.10 sounds just the thing. Darling, it is not I that will be ruined but you, if you give me such a mass of things: rug, basket chair, pretty old chairs — what will become of you? Thank you, thank you, Dearest. I do love having things from you. — I hope you will find the sofa comfortable — it will be chiefly you that will use it I hope!

Poor Lamb, it is awful to be so cross. But if he could learn to control himself and use his imagination to see things from other people’s point of view, he would really be happier. What selfish creatures men are who have never had to accommodate themselves to other people.

Last night Geach brought a new young man named Ritchie to see me — I liked him. I had a very long sleep, which did me good. This morning I have had more proofs, various letters, and notice of a Comee. in London this afternoon. Also my all-but Jesuit has been here to look over a paper he had done me — he came while I was reading Arthur’s letter — for a moment it was very hard to concentrate on his ideas of cardinal number.

Oldham is very satisfactory — it shows no increase of Toryism, but may make the Govt. afraid of offending Labour.

This must be posted or it may not arrive by first post tomorrow. Yes, I love everything we do together. The future looks much simpler than it did. I am sure Alys won’t do anything beyond telling a few intimates, which really doesn’t matter. — I shall be interested to hear about Burnley and how people feel there and what you do and everything. Goodbye my Darling Love. I send you all my heart and a thousand kisses.

Your
B.

How is the address on Love getting on? Ugh!
