My Darling

What a deliciously absurd time we had in the flat — I don’t know when I have felt more silly. It seems like play-acting to me to have a place of my own — except College rooms I have never in all my life had any place that was mine. I shall have to learn to be solemn in my flat, or else you will stay at home and play with Julian instead of with me.

I found a letter from Lucy Silcox about my shilling shocker, very enthusiastic. She was touched by the chicken that at last has its neck wrung, which touches me. I lent her the proofs when she was here. — My lecture went off all right — my German ex-engineer, as usual, maintained his thesis that there is nothing in the world except asserted propositions, but at last I told him it was too large a theme. Geach came to see me afterwards but I was too sleepy to understand what he was saying.

I hope I was not too vehement with P. today — I had entirely forgotten there was anything unusual in my relation to him.

I wrote to the Porter to have fires lighted Friday morning and to get the charwoman to clean up before I come and stay and be interviewed at 10.30 in the morning. By that time things ought to be much advanced.

If you have any thoughts of any kind about my work and manner of life at any time you know I should like to know them.

Goodnight Darling — I have visitors coming at ten, and several letters to write3 before that. Tomorrow morning I will write to Burnley. Now I am too sleepy to have any ideas. I did love it today — in spite of the Lambkin. Seeing my Lamb tonight made me feel what a double life I lead, with one Lamb in each. Goodbye my Dearest Love.
