Wed. night.

My Darling Love

Our days together were so perfect that they leave nothing for letters — Every moment was heavenly. I love your reading of poetry.a I can still hear in my mind’s ear every tone of your voice when you read “Come into these yellow sands” in very early days. Oh how wonderful it is to have you back, and recover all the joy and feel really alive again. Coming down in the train I read Wm. James, not really interesting, but it all seemed vivid and full of colour because my own imagination was awake.

I found various letters — one from Lucy Donnelly (my Bryn Mawr friend), one from Mrs Pope-Hennessy answering my Collins, and one from Lion saying I had been seen in London (alone, I gather), and would I come to tea with her in Gray’s Inn Square! I didn’t know she was there. Just think!

The Nun didn’t come today, which was very sad. The German, who seems to me rather good, was very argumentative. Then Geach came to ask me what I thought about negation, matter, and Dawes Hicks. These topics were only just disposed of by dinner-time.

For the rest of the Term after next Monday, if you can be free in the mornings I needn’t neglect any of my duties here, because nobody ever comes to see me before four. There is no train back to here between 12.40 and 2.35, so when you happen to be free for luncheon I can stay without getting back any later. I am afraid the morning is awkward for you, but it has the advantage that no one here would notice it.

I didn’t meet Ponsonby. If I had gone a moment sooner I should have met Mrs Prothero; as it was, I was just behind her and she didn’t see me.

Goodnight my Darling. I am always wanting to say God bless you, only I don’t know how to say it —

Your utterly devoted
B.

This is a stupid letter because I am sleepy.
