My Darling

The Great Central Hotel will do very well — I didn’t actually engage a room as I was in a hurry to see flats, but I will leave word in the Hall at the officea if you ask for Mr Russell — Maybe knew nothing small enough for me. After some search I came to the conclusion the best place was Bury Str. (by the Museum).

I saw some other flats in Wells Street (off Oxford Street) which might do, but the neighbourhood is a trifle slovenly. I looked at various other places but they were too dear. I rather think Bury Str. will be the best. Besides they are called Russell Chambers! I shall get to London in time to have another look tomorrow before you come.

It was funny at Camberley living in an entirely military atmosphere. Pope-Hennessey is a tremendously keen theoretical strategist — knows military history well. I like hearing him talk about it. He gave me disquisitions of his to read and so on. He is a keen Irish Nationalist and contemplates going into Irish politics. They are very happy and it is a pleasure to see them. It is her best side that likes him.

It was a joy to see your letter, tho’ you still looked pretty tired — I do now really feel that you are home again and that all is well. Tolstoy stirred up in me a feeling of moral uneasiness which I am very liable to. It was chiefly I think because I had let desire run away with me. — I enclose Karin’s letter, which please return as I have not yet answered it, not having been able to discover his address in India, and not wishing to write to Florence. —

Goodbye till tomorrow Darling. I am very happy Dearest. You have the most amazing power of understanding and bringing out one’s best. Don’t be afraid to have positive opinions about my affairs.

Your utterly devoted
B —
