My Dearest Life

Your little letter was a very great joy to me. Yesterday was a wonderful day, in spite of all we had to trouble us — it all made love grow stronger. I am glad you are able not to feel resentful towards Roger — I think it probably ought to be taken as merely the result of overstrain. I am very anxious for news of Alys’s talk with Logan — it is very difficult to know what will come of it.

If you would rather I came to London tomorrow, a telegram sent off quite early would reach me, as my train won’t leave here till 10. You may feel too tired for travelling.

I am feeling rather dead today, after all that has happened the last few days. I am utterly happy, and really at peace in spite of Alys, but not much alive.

Yes, I have thought Goldie better this term too. He would be very good for Roger — he is most restful for overwrought nerves. I find my people at my lectures (there are only two left!) can come equally well on Fridays, so I need not hurry away from Peppard — in fact I need not be back till 9.30 in the evening, if you are free.

Hugh Meredith came in to my rooms this morning and stayed about an hour. I was looking at his poems again and I see I overestimated them — I judged by what they meant to do rather than what they did.

Dearest this is a miserable scrap and now it must be posted if it is to reach you tonight. My heart is very full of love, but I have few words today. When we are together, it seems not to matter about words — I am longing for tomorrow and for Peppard. Goodbye my life and my joy —

Your
B.
