Thursday noon.
My Darling
Your dear letter of last night has just reached me. It is too full of joy. Yes, I love the intimacy that comes of little things too. It was divine yesterday. Now I have only a very short time between my lecture and Mrs Webb. The poor porter couldn’t sleep all night, he was so ashamed of having forgotten the cab — I have never heard of such a thing happening before. It is obvious my bedmaker is quite unsuspicious. She considers you tall — which is true, if not penetrating. — I got to bed last night no later than usual — I hope you were not tired out. It is so delightful to be able to see you in my rooms and feel you as you were when you were here yesterday — it makes the rooms much more companionable —
I don’t want you to be my slave, and I don’t think you ever would be — only we might agree so well that you would never find out you were not. But Darling I could not love you with such devotion if I did not know that your thoughts and feelings are your own and that your will is free. But we shall possess each other more and more — only it will be mutual.
O Dearest yesterday was heaven. It was such a joy to see you free from care. My life, my joy, I love you with the most absolute love — you live in me every moment. Goodbye, my heart — this must go.
Your
B.
