Dear Dr. Ratner,1
I am sorry that pressure of work makes it quite impossible for me, at the present time, to write such a paper as you suggest. At the same time I have every desire to add my good wishes and congratulations to Professor Kallen2 on his seventieth birthday. I hope the other people whom you are writing to contribute to your volume3 will be more cooperative than I can be. Thank you for your kind wishes,
Yours sincerely
