My dear Irina
How very nice of you to send me Desmond’s book on my grandmother. I had it once but lost it, and am very glad to have it again.
I have owed you a letter for a long time, but have been appallingly busy with articles and globe-trotting for the Foreign Office. There is reason to hope that my house at Richmond will be habitable soon, but it hangs fire like everything dependent on the British workman.
You should marry again so as to be in the running for the Dunmow flitch, bestowed for 50 years of uninterrupted matrimonial bliss.
I flourish — I hope you do, and the twins. Love.
Yrs ever
B.
