My dear Irina

Thank you for your nice letter. How odd that you should have heard about the time in Sicily from a friend of Julian! Peter got into a state like the one she was in when we were all in Cambridge. She settled she couldn’t stand me any longer, and had all sorts of imaginary grievances against me. Unfortunately she enlisted Conrad more or less; otherwise I should not mind.

Next week I have to go to London to see the King! I am grown very grand! But if you are in London any time during the winter I shall hope to see you.
