My dear Elizabeth
It was very nice of you and Rupert to send such a friendly message to Norway. Peter read me your letter after my account of the adventure had reached you. I was glad you were impressed by the profundity of my reflections while in the water. — My time in Norway was very agreeable: I loved both the people and the country. Now I am off to Berlin, which will be less agreeable but more interesting.
Is there any chance of your ever being in London? If not, I suppose I shan’t see you till Easter, which would be sad.
I liked Rupert’s uncle. We had a polite discussion as to who should go through doors first; when we reached the Embassy he insisted on my going first, saying “I don’t believe in this Elevation of the Host”.
Love to you both
