Thank you very much for your letter and for your kind invitation to your son’s coming-of-age party. The letter was delayed in reaching me, otherwise I should have replied sooner. I am very sorry that my wife and I cannot accept your kind invitation either for dinner or for the reception, as my academic duties require my presence in Cambridge on that day as well as the next; it would have been a great pleasure to come if it had been possible.
