Dear Professor Perry
Your proposal that I should come to Harvard to lecture in 1912–13 comes as a great honour, and attracts me very strongly indeed. I have long wished to go to America and make acquaintance with the younger realists, with whom I am so much in sympathy. But I am now regularly booked for lecturing here in Cambridge, and I do not quite see how I can reasonably absent myself during the academic year. Until last October I was completely free, but now I am a good deal tied by my duties here. Therefore, tho’ with the greatest regret, I feel I ought to decline the offer.
With best wishes to Mrs Perry and yourself,
Believe me
Yours faithfully
Bertrand Russell.
