BR recommends Casimir Lewy ("whom I know well and think highly of") for a year-long position; secondly, Karl Britton.

Dear Hook
Thank you for your friendly letter. I am sorry to have been so slow in replying to it, but I wanted to take advice.
My best suggestion is
CASIMIR LEWY,
Liverpool University,
whom I know well and think highly of. I don’t know whether he would come. He married not very long ago but so far is, I believe, childless. He was at Cambridge as a research student when I first returned in 1944. Broad and Wisdom, whom I consulted, both suggested him as first choice.
A man who would be good if he were willing to come would be
Karl Britton,
University College, Swansea
but he is older and less likely to make the venture. The difficulty, I imagine, will be the fact that at the end of the year whoever you get would find himself at a loose end.
I can’t think of any one else.
All best wishes
Yours sincerely
Russell.
