My dear Kate
Thank you for your very nice letters. The birthday one arrived exactly at the right date. You need not worry about me any longer, as everything is going better than for years past. Peter and I are on the best of terms, my work goes well, and money comes rolling in. Simon and Schuster will owe me $19,000 on August 1, and I propose to give $100 to you and $100 to John. I will get the whole $200 sent to you, as I shall not be sure of John’s address. Shall it go to 126 Coolidge Hill, or to some other address? It will be in the early days of August. I am not sending more, as John may need help when he gets here.
I enclose a note from Peter about our trunks at the Farr’s. I shall be grateful if you will attend to it. When you write to Peter or me, don’t allude to our troubles of last winter, as she might dislike my having mentioned them.
What you say about your mental development is interesting and very satisfactory. I have had pleasant letters from John, saying, among other things, that he has given up the Deity.
Selfishly I shall be very glad if you come back to England. But I am not sure that I should advise it.
Very much love, dear Kate.
Yrs aff
Diddy
