My dear Kate

Thank you for your letter. I am glad to know something of your work — I don’t know what “verkitsch” means, but I can guess. I am very glad you enjoy being back in England — I should have been sorry if you had become American in feeling.

I very much want to see you again — your last visit was such a very brief one. We shall in a very short time be able to put you up in our house if you don’t mind some discomfort. Peter means to make nice rooms for you and John when possible, but at first they will be unfinished.

What you say about Amiel is most interesting, and I can’t pretend I am sorry. But I don’t quite understand what you mean about a “surfeit of kindness”. You must write me more, or tell me when you come. Does it make you unhappy?

Much love, dear Kate.

Yr aff
Diddy

P.S. Can you fairly soon let me have some of the money you had from the Oppenheims.
