BR TO KATHARINE TAIT, 6 NOV. 1947
BRACERS 52538. ALS. McMaster

TRINITY COLLEGE,
CAMBRIDGE.

My dear Kate

Your news about Amiel came as a surprise. I am quite willing to believe that you have made a right decision, and in any case I wish you all possible happiness. It seems surprising that you did not prefer Tait, but the vagaries of the human heart are unpredictable. I am glad you told me the story. It will not astonish me if either you or Amiel breaks it off; perhaps now that you no longer give him occasion for “jealous rage” he may seem to care less.

It was clever of you to pass your exams in the middle of such an upheaval. I am glad you enjoy teaching; I find great pleasure in it. It will be a great joy to see you next summer. You have my paternal blessing in any case.

<a portion of the photocopied page was excised by K. Tait, but the gap doesn’t seem to be matched on the verso of the sheet>

All goes well with me. Conrad hated Dartington, and for the moment he is at home. Peter and I teach him.

Give my best wishes to Amiel. Much love, dear Kate.

Your affec.
Diddy
