Dear Mr. Unwin,
According to your last half-yearly statement, a considerable sum in royalties was due to me, and I asked that payment should be postponed until after April 5th, so that the income tax on the payment should fall on the next financial year. I have now received a demand for surtax, which I cannot pay out of my current balance, but which can easily wait until after April 5th. I should be very much obliged if your firm would send a cheque for the sum due to my bank — Messrs. Child & Co., 1, Fleet Street — for my account, as soon after April 5th as may be convenient, but not before. I would rather the cheque was sent to my bank, as I shall be abroad. I do hope this is not too much bother.
Yours sincerely,
<signed> Russell.
