Dear Mr. Unwin,

Thank you for your letter. I received an advance of $3000.00 on The History of Western Philosophy, but on Human Knowledge I decided that, for income tax reasons, it was better to have no advance. I should, however, be glad of an advance on Authority and the Individual, and I think $2000.00 would be a reasonable sum, but if Simon and Schuster think this excessive, I should be willing to accept $1500.00.

Yours sincerely,
<signed> Russell.
