ALLEN AND UNWIN / PHILIP UNWIN TO ALLEN AND UNWIN / STANLEY UNWIN, 4 MAR. 1948
BRACERS 48128. TN(X). George Allen and Unwin Ltd.

4.3.48.

Sir S.U.

Before this letter from Russell arrived M.E.B. and I had reconsidered the whole Series, especially in the light of a masterly talk by Gordon Rupp on Victorian Non-conformity.

Even if there were still a chance for us to secure the Series, we are very doubtful whether it would be worth it. There are over 30 authors, the least important of whom would probably expect not less than five guineas for his contribution, and it is doubtful whether a symposium of this kind could stand a £150 advance. We know all too much about the complications of royalty arrangements of these B.B.C. collections of talks.
