Dear Unwin

I am sorry to say an unpardonable muddle has occurred. I got a letter, which I have mislaid, from some firm, saying they had got from the B.B.C. an agreement about publishing the Victorian talks, and that the other authors had agreed. In an absent-minded fit I agreed, forgetting my correspondence with you. If I had not lost their letter and forgotten who they were, I would write and withdraw permission. As it is, I don’t know what to do. Please forgive me — I am very overworked.

Yours sincerely
Bertrand Russell
