Sir Stanley Unwin,
Messrs. George Allen & Unwin,
40, Museum Street,
W.C.1.
Dear Unwin,
I enclose a letter from the Editor of a new German philosophical periodical,1 which I should be glad if you would return to me. I am sending it because I should very much like to be able to supply him with English books but do not know how to do so. Would it be possible to let him have an unbound copy of my History, or a part of it, for which I would willingly pay what, in your opinion, it is worth? Or is there anything else of a philosophical nature by me that you could send him, again at my expense? I do not know myself which of my books are in print.
As soon as I make contact with my papers, which are at present in storage,2 I will look through them to see what I have that would be suitable for a book of essays. My only reason for hesitating about such a volume is that I am hoping to complete some time during this year my big book on Human Knowledge — Its Scope and Limits, which will be about 200,000 words, and it seems a little doubtful whether it is worth while to use paper on a less important book. I should be glad of your opinion on this.
Yours sincerely,
<signed> Bertrand Russell
