Dear Warder
I am writing to ask whether you could do me a great kindness. This house has had to be furnished completely, and as I can’t get any money out of England, it has had to be done out of income. The bills (as is the nature of bills) turn out rather larger than I had expected, and I have some difficulty, at the moment, in paying them. Could you make me an advance of (say) $500, which could be repaid out of my subsequent earnings with you? Don’t mind saying no if it is in any way inconvenient.
My income here is adequate for all ordinary purposes, but hardly for furnishing a house from top to bottom.
If you are ever in this part of the world, it would be very nice to see you.
Yours sincerely
Bertrand Russell.
