Dear Warder,
Bertie has asked me to reply to your letter. He is doing a little necessary work before the children come, after doing none for two months. What with his strained back and fatigue he has been really ill, and the doctors made him take a complete rest, which has done him a great deal of good. He is now himself again and better than he has been for a long time. Work, however, is in arrears. The Los Angeles people have been very kind and are letting him off as much as they can, but there is still a good deal to prepare in odd moments, and he feels that he can’t take on any extras.
We hope and believe that John and Kate sailed this morning. I enclose a note for them. We are so glad that you and Polly can see them.
In haste for mail,
Yours sincerely,
Peter Russell
