Dear Warder

Thank you for your letter of Jan. 21 and for the report of your speech in favour of More and Brighter Publishers. Peter and I at the moment are staying with friends at Malaga, but we shall be home again before you could write to us in Spain. The Scandinavian trip was a success, and I had very interesting conversations with Bohr and Heisenberg.

At the moment we are finishing the preparation of my parents’ papersa (with a memoir) for a Vol. of about 180,000 words to be published by the Nonesuch Press. I told them I wanted you to have the American end, but I think it would be well if you wrote to them, as the contract gives them all rights.

I think we shall both come to America in October — from that point of view it is a convenience to be married.

My parents, in 1867, visited Emerson, the Oneida community, et id genus omne. The Duchess of Cambridge (grandmother of Queen Mary) picked up my mother’s skirts at a garden party to see if they were dirty, saying “I hear you only associate with dirty Radicals and dirty Americans.” My mother’s mother consoled her by saying the Duchess always was a vulgar old thing. So you see there will be some fun in the book.

Love to you both.

Yours very sincerely
B.R.
