Dear Warder
Thank you for your nice letter of Aug. 16. Yes, the cheque was better than you had led me to hope, and I am glad universities and colleges are taking up the book. But when you quote from the Preface, pleasea don’t repeat the misprint “chance” for “change”, which makes nonsense. What is a “cause of chance”? And I do hope you have corrected it in reprints. I wrote about it as soon as the book appeared. The misprint does not appear in the English edition.
I shall come in the autumn of next year if Feakins finds he can arrange a successful tour. It is most kind of you to offer an advance on the next book if I come, and I shall be glad of it if I can get the book done in time. But I can’t be sure of finishing it soon enough. Peter has been operated for appendicitis after being ill for some time. It is thought she will now be quite well, but a good deal of time has been lost.
Best wishes to Polly and yourself.
Yours very sincerely
Bertrand Russell.
