BR TO J.B.S. HALDANE, 3 NOV. 1953
BRACERS 12799. AL dictated. McMaster
Proofread by K. Blackwell

3 Nov. 19531

Dear Haldane,

I am interested in what you say about Spalding. I do not remember him as I never saw him after I was three years old; and, although your word “imprinting” present <sic> an attractive hypothesis, I am afraid there cannot be much in it, the more so as he was my brother’s tutor and not mine and I was left in charge of a German governess. Nevertheless, I have no personal objection to anything that you say.

I had noted the allusions to Spalding in James’s Psychology but the other references to him that you mention were new to me.

Yrs Sinc,
