"We live, as you see from this letter-head, in North Wales, deep in the country, seven and a half hours by train from London, with a heavenly view of the Welsh hills and the sea, surrounded by garden and farm land. Three of Bertie's grandchildren live with us but are away at school much of the time. No maids, but two 'dailies' each morning. People from all over the world—many from the U.S.A.—all colours, black, yellow and white, coming and going all the time. So life is busy and most unpredictable—and interesting."

"In 1957 I had to spend several months in bed because of a heart attack and, since then, Bertie has had several serious illnesses, and we have been in gaol, and—oh dear me! I can't remember all the ups and downs. But here we are, and would like immensely to see you."
