"Here is the first instalment of the five thousand pounds that Bertie [BR] wanted to give you."

Letter is addressed "Sir" and is written to the editor of a newspaper re the use of the money from the sale of BR's archives; this is a copy typed by Edith Russell.

From document .311156: "... I have since gathered from him [Conrad Russell] that many of his father's letters never reached him. I can only assume Peter [Patricia Russell] intercepted them.... C. was very distressed to learn that his father had written often, and that he had known nothing about it, but in the way of life and type of atmosphere Peter generated, such things are not impossible." Documents .311177, .311188-.311189, and .311191 concern Ronald Clark and his biography of BR.
