Dear Mr. Russell,

Here is the letter I have sent Keynes about his book. I think you were inclined to agree with him on prop. A. If my two points are good, don’t they affect seriously both his philosophy and his formal theory of induction? I am glad to think A false, because it looks so rational — too much so; and it does seem to me that Keynes has proved it false, while asserting it all the time. His carelessness on point 2 is also curious. But here, I have not been able to discover the proof that is lacking. I am hoping he will answer.

How fine your comparison is of Chinese and European anarchy — do we not see just now one tuchun invading the province of another in order to lay hands on the taxes? We both love your book on China. I think the passive resistance of the Germans quite stirring; and without any thought, one does feel a sort of new hope in a thing like that.

My health is making slow progress. My thesis on the external world is finished; I am now writing a short and somewhat hasty study of induction.

Please accept our best wishes for yourself, Mrs Russell, and your little son. I cannot say how great a pleasure both your visits have been to us.
